Crispy, golden fries taken to the next level with bold Greek flavours – yes, please! These Greek-Style Loaded Fries are the perfect mix of crunchy, creamy, tangy, and savoury, making every bite downright addictive.

We’re talking garlicky goodness, a generous drizzle of dairy-free tzatziki, juicy cherry tomatoes, crisp red onion, vegan mince, briny kalamata olives (if you like olives – I don’t – but it wouldn’t loaded Greek fries without them), and a sprinkle of fresh herbs for that fresh, zesty kick. You can keep it classic or level it up even more with extras like vegan feta, crunchy chickpeas, or a squeeze of lemon for that ultimate flavour bomb. Whether you’re making them for a party, a cosy night in, or just because – one thing’s for sure: these fries never last long. So grab a fork (or your hands, no judgment here) and dig in!

Greek-Style Loaded Fries

Ingredients for Greek-Style Loaded Fries:

  • Vegan mince or TVP – A perfectly-spiced, protein-packed topping that adds texture and a meaty flavour.
  • Fries (homemade or frozen, baked or air-fried) – The crispy, golden base that holds all the toppings. Opt for thick-cut fries or wedges for extra crunch and sturdiness.
  • Dairy-free tzatziki – Adds a cool, creamy, and garlicky contrast to the hot, crispy fries, balancing out the bold flavours. Think sour cream but better!
  • Cherry tomatoes (halved or diced) – Brings freshness and a juicy burst of sweetness to complement the savoury elements.
  • Red onion (thinly sliced) – Adds a sharp, slightly sweet crunch that cuts through the richness and brings a classic Greek touch.
  • Spice mix – Essential Greek-inspired seasonings that add warmth and depth to the vegan mince including garlic, oregano, rosemary, paprika, cumin and thyme.
  • Fresh herbs (parsley, dill, or oregano) – Brightens the dish with a pop of colour and fresh, aromatic flavour.
  • Kalamata olives (pitted and sliced) – Brings that signature Greek briny, salty kick, enhancing all the other flavours.

Can I use frozen fries for this recipe?

Absolutely! Frozen fries work perfectly if you’re looking for convenience – which if this is your fakeaway friday meal then frozen fries are going to be your best option. Choose a high-quality brand with thick-cut fries for the best results. Bake or air-fry them according to the package instructions to get that crispy, golden base. You can also make homemade fries if you prefer, just slice your potatoes, toss them in olive oil, season with salt, and bake until crispy.

What if I don’t have dairy-free tzatziki?

If you can’t find dairy-free tzatziki, you can easily make your own by blending non-dairy yogurt (like coconut or almond milk yogurt) with garlic, cucumber, lemon juice, dill, and a pinch of salt. This will give you that tangy, creamy base that’s essential to the dish. For the recipe I use head to my Vegan Chicken Gyros recipe. Alternatively, you could also use a plant-based sour cream or even hummus for a different spin.

Can I add more toppings to these fries?

Yes! The beauty of loaded fries is that you can customize them. Consider adding sliced cucumbers, roasted red peppers, or even vegan sausage for a protein boost. For an extra Greek twist, top with a bit of pickled red onion or a handful of chopped fresh spinach.

How can I make these fries spicier?

If you love a little heat, you can add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, or even a drizzle of spicy harissa sauce to kick things up. You could also incorporate some jalapeños or hot sauce into your toppings for that extra zing.

Tips to make these Greek-Style Loaded Fries quicker:

  • Use Frozen Fries: Skip the time spent cutting and baking potatoes. Grab a bag of high-quality frozen fries and cook them in an air fryer for a crispy, quick base.
  • Store-Bought Tzatziki: Save time by purchasing store-bought dairy-free tzatziki instead of making your own from scratch.
  • Pre-Cut Veggies: Buy pre-sliced or diced veggies like red onion, tomatoes, and cucumbers from the supermarket to avoid prep time. You could also alternatively use a mandolin or vegetable cutter to easily cut your vegetables.
  • Pre-Pitted Olives: Use pre-pitted kalamata olives to skip the time spent removing pits and chopping.
  • Chopped Fresh Herbs: Purchase pre-chopped fresh herbs like parsley or dill from the store to skip the chopping process.
  • Vegan Mince: If you’re adding vegan mince as a topping, opt for an already-flavoured variety making it easy to throw together.
  • Air-Fry the Fries: Air-fry your fries for a faster, healthier alternative to oven-baking, and it will give them a nice crispy texture without much fuss.

These vegan-friendly Greek-Style Loaded Fries are the ultimate comfort food with a Mediterranean twist, piled high with crispy fries, fresh veggies, and creamy dairy-free tzatziki.

Ingredients

  • 450 grams Frozen Crinkle Cut Chips

  • 1/2 cup Chopped Cherry Tomatoes

  • 1/2 cup Thinly Sliced or Chopped Red Onion

  • 3/4 cup Vegan Mince

  • 1/3 cup Dairy-Free Tzatziki

  • 1/2 tsp Oregano

  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Cumin

  • 1/4 tsp Thyme

  • 1/2 tsp Paprika

  • 1/4 tsp Rosemary

  • Fresh Herbs (Parsley, Oregano or Dill)

  • 1/4 cup Kalamata Olives (optional)

  • 1/2 tbsp Olive Oil, for frying mince

  • Sea Salt, for garnish

Directions

  • Preheat your oven or air fryer to the temperature specified on the frozen fries package. Bake in the oven or air fry until golden and crispy, around 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • In a pan over medium heat, heat half a tablespoon of olive oil. Add the vegan mince and sauté until it starts to brown (about 5 minutes).
Sprinkle in the dried herbs and spices for that classic Greek flavour. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring to ensure the herbs coat the mince.
  • While the fries are cooking, finely chop the red onion and tomatoes. Set them aside in separate bowls. Slice the olives if using whole ones.
  • Once the fries are cooked and crispy, transfer them to a serving platter or individual bowls. Layer on the cooked vegan mince evenly over the fries, followed by the chopped tomatoes, red onion, and sliced olives (if using).
  • Drizzle or dollop dairy-free tzatziki generously over the top of the fries, making sure each fry gets a bit of the creamy sauce.
  • Sprinkle a few fresh sprigs of parsley, oregano or dill over the top. Optionally, add a squeeze of lemon juice, sea salt or a pinch of chilli flakes for extra zest and flavour.
