Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric Immune Boosting Shots

Ingredients you will need

Lemon – Fresh lemon juice is not only packed with vitamin C (hello, immune support!), but it also adds a tangy, refreshing zing that balances out the spiciness from the ginger. If you like lemon, check out my Vegan Lemon and Poppy Seed Cupcakes.

Ginger – This one’s a no-brainer! Ginger is packed with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties that help support your immune system. Plus, it gives these shots that spicy kick that’s so refreshing. This is also one of my favourite ingredients to cook with and you can even grow it easily yourself!

Black pepper – This one’s a sneaky secret ingredient! Black pepper helps your body absorb the turmeric more effectively, making sure you get all the benefits from that golden goodness.

Turmeric – Ah, turmeric – the golden hero! It’s loaded with curcumin, which is great for reducing inflammation and giving your immune system a boost. It’s a must-have in any wellness routine, and it makes the shots so vibrant. You can use fresh or powder in this recipe too – whatever is easier for you get your hands on.

Orange – I like to throw in a chunk of orange for a touch of sweetness and an extra hit of vitamin C. It’s like a little burst of sunshine in every shot.

Filtered water – I like to add filtered water to this recipe to help thin out some of the harder ingredients when blending this in my Vitamix blender. Remember, it’s a drink not a pulp that we are making, so feel free to adjust the amount of water here.

Raw honey or maple syrup – A little sweetener goes a long way to balance out the spice and tang. I love using maple syrup or raw honey for a natural touch of sweetness, but it’s totally optional if you prefer it more on the savoury side. Manuka honey is also great in this and has beneficial properties that support the immune system.

Orange, Turmeric, Black Pepper, Ginger and Lemon

How to make these immune boosting shots

Making these immune-boosting shots is super easy and takes just a few minutes. Don’t worry, you won’t need a messy juicy, which honestly – who could be bothered with the clean up after?! This a quick recipe and one that actually retains some of that fibre aka the good stuff!

Start by tossing the fresh ginger and turmeric into a blender – if you’re using ground turmeric, just add that in then or at the end in a stainless steel bowl if you’re worried about stains. Throw both the lemon and orange segments (if you’re using it) right in there (minus the skin of course), and then add the black pepper to help your body absorb all that turmeric goodness. Pour in a little water to help blend everything smoothly.

If you like a touch of sweetness, throw in some maple syrup or raw honey. Blend it all together, then strain it if you want a smoother shot (you can skip this step if you’re feeling lazy). Once it’s all mixed, pour it into shot glasses or small bottles, pop them in the fridge, and you’re good to go! Just shake before drinking, and you’re set to support your immune system.
